J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 28th April 2010

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. A great, great show tonight as the members of Jews and Catholics came in, played live and talked about the new album. It was a fun time and the live performances are great.

I mentioned on my Twitter account awhile back that I was part of a podcast about the Replacements. People have heard me talk about them tons over the years, but now it was officially sanctioned for me to talk about them. The interview went up, so go check it out and listen to me talk about my favorite band of all time with the fantastic Courtney Smith from Uncensored Interview.

Now, while the raven is still like a writing desk, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 28th April 2010

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Drive-by Truckers - "Birthday Boy" [a brilliant, brilliant mike cooley song that only gets better the more i listen to it. it's the absolute antithesis in many ways of any ac/dc song about a stripper. bottom line, it's brilliant.]
X - "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes" [from under the big black sun. i imagine the title being a reference to a less hardened version of the narrator from the trucker's song. i reach for straws too much sometimes.]
Archie Bronson Outfit - "Wild Strawberries" [from coconut. this band got my attention a couple of years back with their song "cherry lips." and now they're back with a different sounding record that is brilliant in its own way.]
Matthew Sweet - "We're the Same" [from 100% fun. this was the first matthew sweet album i ever heard and it won me over for life. this song is a note-perfect love song. seriously.]

[Here's where Eddie and Alanna, aka Jews and Catholics, joined me live in studio. We talked about their band origins, how they landed on their record label, working with Mitch Easter on their new album and a few upcoming shows they'll be playing including their album release show this Friday, April 30th at the Garage and the next Often Awesome benefit show at Greene Street on Tuesday, May 18th.]

Jews and Catholics - "Trouble One Trouble Two" (live) [a song from the new album rendered live and acoustic. click here to listen.]
Jews and Catholics - "Fevers" [from the new album who are? we think we are!]
Jews and Catholics - "Thank God I Don't Live In Your Eyes" (live) [another one from the new album rendered live and acoustic. click here to listen.]
>
Jews and Catholics - "The Spring" [from who are? we think we are!]
the Tallest Man on Earth - "Love Is All" [from the wild hunt. if you missed the WQFeSt on saturday, you missed an amazing show from this guy. check out this video of him performing "the gardener" at the show.]
Caleb Caudle and the Bayonets - "DLMG" [from snake river canyon. one of my favorites from the new album. caleb et al. will be playing this thursday, april 29th, along with amelia's mechanics at the garage in winston-salem.]
the Replacements - "Shiftless When Idle" [from sorry ma, forgot to take out the trash. got this song stuck in my head the other week and it always surprises me as one of westerberg's best lyrical moments on this debut. "i ain't got no idols / i ain't got much taste / i'm shiftless when i'm idle / and i got time to waste." ]
>
the New Pornographers - "Crash Years" [from together. oh, how good it is to hear neko case on this record. i already like this album more than challengers. thoughts?]
Citified - "Pencil Me In" [from absence. citified, along with a slew of other great local bands including decoration ghost, holy ghost tent revival, filthybird and more, will be playing at the shindig festival this sunday, may 2nd, in downtown greeensboro. bands start at noon and go 'til 6 PM and yours truly will be MC'ing. come on down and have some fun.]
Pavement - "Gold Soundz" [from crooked rain crooked rain and the new quarantine the past best of collection. can't wait to hopefully see these guys this summer. i've heard the reunion shows so far have all been a blast.]
Public Enemy - "By the Time I Get to Arizona" [from apocalypse '91: the empire strikes black. in the midst of all the nonsense going on in arizona, everything old is new again. this song stirred up some controversy years ago with its video and now chuck d. has a solo song about the current mess.]
>
M.I.A. - "Born Free" [from the forthcoming, still untitled album. this song is ridiculously good and the video is insane. i'm salivating for this new record.]
the Church - "Spark" [from starfish. the church are going to be at the lincoln theatre thursday, april 29th in raleigh and friday, april 30th at the mcglohan theater in charlotte. they're doing a run of acoustic 30th anniversary shows and they ought to be awesome.]
Roky Erickson and Okkervil River - "Devotional Number One" [from true love cast out all evil. this new album is gorgeous and my AD cohort m. garner wrote a great piece about this song last week. truly some great insight.]
Josh Rouse - "Rise" [from 1972. old josh rouse because new josh rouse is just not that interesting. sorry. but this song. awesome.]
>
the Hold Steady - "The Weekenders" [from heaven is whenever. more new good stuff from the forthcoming album. anthems, ahoy!]
Lucinda Williams - "Pineola" [from sweet old world. one of my absolute favorite lucinda williams tracks and just a mesmerizing song lyrically.]
the Mynabirds - "We Made a Mountain" [from what we lose in the fire we gain in the flood. new music from laura burhenn (ex-georgie james) and her new project is fantastic. more soulful and dusty in memphis-esque versus the poppier edge of georgie james. we'll be hearing more.]
the Radio Dept. - "This Time Around" [from clinging to a scheme. i'm not sure how to describe this yet, i just know it's good. very good. swedish. how's that for an adjective?]
>
Josh Ritter - "Orbital" [from so runs the world away. new music from the forthcoming album. hey, josh, you should come back on my radio show again. just sayin'. you had fun last time. let's do it.]
the Cash Brothers - "Nebraska" [from so how was tomorrow? a stone-cold classic in terms of just killer songwriting and great allusions and great, great music. if you've never heard this song, well, here you go.]

That'll do it for this week. I'll see you Friday night at the Jews and Catholics album release show at the Garage and on Sunday at the Shindig Festival downtown. Until then, take care.

J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 21st April 2010

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. A fantastic load of new music this week, so tons of great stuff, as well as a look back at Peter Steele and Guru, of Type O Negative and Gang Starr, respectively, who both passed away this past week.

The WQFeSt is this weekend - both Friday and Saturday night - with a whole load of great bands playing for free both nights. Friday night is a hip-hop show starting at 8 PM with Superteam, Kristmas, G-Mane, Jackie Chain and G-Side. Saturday starts at 5 PM with Mixed Signals, Acidosis, Savant, The Bronzed Chorus, Lake Inferior, Casual Curious, Future Islands, Nurses and the Tallest Man on Earth. It's Free and open to the public and I'll be MC'ing Saturday's shows, so be there and help us celebrate 40 years of being your only alternative!

Now, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 21st April 2010 show

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
the Hold Steady - "Hurricane J" [from heaven is whenever. i heard the first twenty seconds of this song at some point and kind of shrugged. i figured i'd pay attention to it later. well, if only i'd held on for the chorus. wow. another great one from one of america's great living rock and roll bands.]
the Stooges - "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" [from the new expanded, remastered and reissued version of raw power. a hilarious letter written about the bonus-disc live show almost 40 years ago came with our station's copy. it was from someone at CBS records looking over the recordings and deciding that due to the massive profanity that the recordings should be locked away and never seen for at least 40 years. welp, there you go. got your wish.]
the Morning Benders - "All Day Daylight" [from big echo. great song from a fantastic album from these guys. probably top 25 of 2010 bound.]
Blur - "For Tomorrow" [the lead track from their second album, modern life is rubbish. the new blur documentary no distance left to run looks really great, by the way. as does the live in hyde park concert video.]
>
Roky Erickson and Okkervil River - "John Lawman" [from the new true love cast out all evil. if you know who erickson is, you know why this is such a special record. and okkervil river turn out to be an ace backing partner for him. this is seriously good.]
Paul Westerberg - "Men Without Ties" [from besterberg but also available originally on the "world class fad" single as a b-side. a great little throw-away tune from westerberg that has always had a warm place in my heart.]
Caleb Caudle and the Bayonets - "Heat Lightnin' Heat" [from snake river canyon. caleb and bandmate phillip played a slowed down version of this on the show last week and the ramped up album version is a great compliment to it. great music.]
Bow Wow Wow - "C30 C60 C90 Go!" [from the best of bow wow wow, this was one of their earliest singles, an ode to home taping that drove some industry folks crazy as it promoted abandoning buying records and simply taping songs off the radio.]
>
the Tallest Man on Earth - "The Wild Hunt" [the title track from his new album. he'll be here at guilford college live this saturday, april 24th, playing as part of the WQFeSt. show starts at 5 PM and is FREE! so come out to founder's lawn in the main part of guilford campus for a slew of great bands.]
Sleater-Kinney - "The Size of Our Love" [from the hot rock. one of my all time favorite sleater-kinney songs. this week came the news that sk's corin tucker will be releasing her first solo record later this year (hopefully) on kill rock stars. oh, my. get excited.]
Frightened Rabbit - "Swim Until You Can't See Land" [from the winter of mixed drinks. they'll be at the cat's cradle in carborro this sunday night, april 25th, as far as i know. they were prevented from playing coachella because of the volcano, so hopefully this won't delay the rest of their US tour.]
Del Amitri - "Tell Her This" [from twisted. probably my all time favorite del amitri song. this set was a lot more low key than i planned, but still turned out pretty lovely. i dedicate the scottish half of this set to lis because, well, i can.]
>
Josh Ritter - "Rattling Locks" [from the forthcoming so runs the world away. i haven't had a chance to really absorb the album yet, but i'm digging this song. don't worry. we'll hear tons more. he'll be at the carolina theatre in durham on tuesday, may 11th.]
the Jayhawks - "Nothing Left to Borrow" [from tomorrow the green grass. i was just re-listening to the lovely sound of lies the other week and remembering why i think it's the jayhawks' best album. love this song though.]
Titus Andronicus - "Theme from 'Cheers'" [from the monitor. okay. another shot at my massive screw up from the other week. did a much better editing job this time. great, great album. summer time, late night, rock.]
the Flaming Lips - "Turn It On" [from transmissions from the satellite heart. the first song i ever really heard by the flaming lips and it's always been one of my favorites.]
>
Jews and Catholics - "Trouble One Trouble Two" [from the excellent who are? we think we are! eddie and alanna (the catholic and jew themselves) will be up on the show next week. going to make for a great show.]
Ride - "Vapour Trail" [from the album nowhere, often called the second best album of the shoegaze movement. one guess what the first one is. it's a pretty stellar album, indeed.]
Dum Dum Girls - "Bhang, Bhang, I'm a Burnout" [from i will be. another entry in the wavves/vivian girls/times new viking clutch of bands that, honestly, i'm really loving. great, great stuff.]
John Prine - "She Is My Everything" (live) [from the forthcoming in person & on stage live album. i got into john prine via his performance on the sadly defunct sessions at west 54th show on PBS. that performance of "lake marie" forever changed me. seriously.]
>
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - "Better Things" [from the excellent new i learned the hard way. you can check out my review of it at aquarium drunkard. they're playing at the cat's cradle in carborro on tuesday, may 11th.]
Juliana Hatfield - "What a Life" [from only everything. tom, of tom's diner here on WQFS, insists that hatfield's last few records have actually been pretty solid. any commenters? i tuned out on her a long time ago.]
Drive-by Truckers - "Birthday Boy" [from the big to-do. one of my favorite tracks on the record and that seems to be a consensus. now i'm hearing rumors that the author of this song, mike cooly, might indeed be releasing a solo record later this year. here's hoping.]
>
Gang Starr - "Full Clip" [from full clip: a decade of gang starr. as i said on the podcast, i probably have almost never played gang starr or guru on my show over the years, but as an appreciator of his music and what he gave to hip-hop, i had to throw some on, even if it didn't manage to trickle into my playlists. my own personal loves, music wise, are much more broad than the confines i give to this show. the show would be an absolute mess if i didn't cull some of that stuff, but guru is worth mentioning. rest in peace, man.]
Type O Negative - "Love You to Death" [from october rust. i talked about peter steele's death last week on the blog post. this was the first type o negative album i owned and it's still the one i come to most often when i'm in the mood to listen to them. they aren't something i reached for a lot, but at the right moment, there was nothing quite like them. rest in peace, peter.]

That'll do it for this week. Make sure you are at WQFeSt either Friday, starting at 8 PM, or Saturday starting at 5 PM for two nights of free shows and fantastic music. I'll be MC'ing the Saturday affair, so make double sure you come out for that stuff. Until then, take care.

J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 14th April 2010

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. I had the pleasure of being joined in studio, for the second time, by Caleb Caudle. Caleb was up in the studio in February of '09 when his last album came out and now his newest, Snake River Canyon, is getting ready to drop at he and his band's CD release show on Saturday, April 17th at the Garage in Winston-Salem. Can't wait for what will be an awesome show, and you should definitely check out the live cuts from the interview.

Great news! You can vote for me as one of the Best Radio DJs of the Triad! Yes! Weekly is doing their The Triad's Best awards and I'm on the list of nominees for Best Radio DJ! Just click over to Yes! Weekly's website and vote! There are all sorts of categories to vote in, but just make sure you choose my name (Josh Neas) to vote for in the Best Radio DJ category. Thanks!

On a much sadder note, I'm a day late on getting the show up, but in doing so it allows me to mourn yet another musician. I mention in the show the late Malcolm McLaren, but today, Thursday, April 15th, also brought the death of Type O Negative lead singer Peter Steele. Peter was a very unique and original musician, whether it was through his earlier band Carnivore or the gloomy-but-highly-self-aware Type O Negative. Type O Negative was introduced to me in high school by my friend Andy, a lover of goth music, who really enjoyed the cheeky humor that embraced both the most serious and silliest sides of goth music - embracing it while subtly mocking it in a way that showed a true love for the genre. Longtime listeners to the show will know that I always break out Type O at Halloween and Christmas for various reasons and Peter was truly too young to go. Rest in peace, Peter.

Now, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 14th April 2010 show

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Dr. Dog - "Stranger" [from the forthcoming shame shame which is due out super soon, i believe. maybe i'll finally catch these guys live this time around.]
the Modern Lovers - "Roadrunner" [from their self-titled debut. if there's a finer classic rock and roll song around, i'm not sure what it is. this is as timeless as anything else out there.]
Finn Riggins - "Shaky" [from vs. wilderness. they played in chapel hill on tuesday night and i'm sad i didn't get to get up to see them. a great live show.]
Verbena - "Into the Pink" [the title track from their second album. i still really enjoy this and, especially, their third album. great stuff, even though a.a. bondy has moved on to greater and better things.]

[This is where I interviewed Caleb Caudle. He was joined by two members of the Bayonets, his backing band, Philip Pledger and Kyle Caudle. We talked about the new album, the process of writing it, changes in the band since last he stopped by, he and the band's favorite recent records and the upcoming CD release show this Saturday, April 17th, at the Garage in Winston-Salem. Show starts at 10 PM and doors are at 9:30. And though I chastised him on air for saying it (my bad for not prepping him), Foothills Brewery beers will be on sale that night for $2 a pint. Good stuff.]

Caleb Caudle and Phillip Pledger - "Heat Lightnin' Heat" (live) [a live version of a song from the new snake river canyon album that they're putting out at their CD release show on saturday at the garage. a great, lovely tune. click here to listen.]
Caleb Caudle and the Bayonets - "So Gone" [an album track from the new album.]
Caleb Caudle and Phillip Pledger - "Red Bank Road" (live) [a live version of a song from the previous album. another great and lovely tune. click here to listen.]
>
Caleb Caudle and the Bayonets - "Moonlight Mile" [also from snake river canyon. i'd definitely go to the show on saturday and pick up a copy if i were you. seriously.]
Gil Scott-Heron featuring Nas - "New York Is Killing Me" (remix) [this one dropped this week and you can pick it up here. nas adds a nice little bit to this already stellar song and one reviewer called it his "anti 'new york state of mind.'" not a bad analogy.]
Decoration Ghost - "Father's Fists" [from the haze of wine and age. one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite greensboro bands. especially that great little drum fill right after the line 'pounding like the drums of the cold war.' masterful.]
the Backsliders - "Abe Lincoln" [from southern lines. credit my friend jeff for getting me into this north carolina band. he made me a fantastic mix this week that included this song and now i'm hooked. going to have to find me more of these guys.]
>
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - "Money" [from i learned the hard way. this album is fantastic and it just gets funkier and funkier. they're playing at the cat's cradle on tuesday, may 11th. a guaranteed good time.]
the Soft Pack - "C'mon" [from their self-titled record. stumbled upon this song and realized i hadn't played it in a bit. a pretty strong summertime record that dropped just a bit earlier this year. saw these guys back when they were the muslims and it's just gotten better.]
Jews and Catholics - "Who Are We Think We Are" [the title track from their forthcoming album. the jew and the catholic are going to join me live in studio in two weeks, wednesday, april 28th for an interview. we'll talk this new record and other stuff. awesome.]
Adam and the Ants - "Physical (You're So)" [from kings of the wild frontier. was just talking about adam ant with the head drunkard and we discussed this song, mainly because of nine inch nails' fantastic cover of it from the broken EP. i smell an article.]
>
Tallest Man on Earth - "King of Spain" [from the forthcoming the wild hunt. he'll be our headliner at the (somewhat shrunken) WQFeSt on saturday, april 24th. going to be a great night of music.]
Screaming Blue Messiahs - "Sweet Water Pools" [by request, from red bikini. this came in through twitter from my tweet buddy (twuddy?) brad. not a bad song. have heard of these guys over the years, but never looked into it.]
the National - "Afraid of Everyone" [from the forthcoming high violet. two songs are now out and about. i think people are salivating for the full length. i know i am.]
Toad the Wet Sprocket - "All in All" [from in light syrup. years ago, tim lafollette and i did a duet of this song in the underground at guilford and it was a wonderful time. i'm going to be MCing the upcoming often awesome event at greene street club on tuesday, may 18th with a bunch of bands (including jews and catholics). i'm going to get to play a bit also, which i'm very excited about. y'all come down and contribute to a worthy, excellent cause.]
>
the Love Language - "Heart to Tell" [from the forthcoming libraries. this came across my twitter minutes before i burned the CD for this show. excellent timing. this album doesn't come out until july, but hey, this is a great leak. great, great stuff.]
Iggy and the Stooges - "Search and Destroy" [from raw power. the new legacy edition of this album is out, so i thought i'd pull out my vinyl copy. not my favorite stooges album (that would be fun house, but still a great ride.]
Clem Snide - "Denver" [from the meat of life. one of the most beautiful songs i've heard this year and it's most certainly destined for my year-end best singles show.]
Sex Pistols - "EMI" [from nevermind the bollocks. in memory of malcolm mclaren, i went with the most bristling-at-the-industry song from this album. it's a taunting raspberry of a song and i delight in its mean spirited and gloating lyrics. check out my memoriam piece about malcolm over at aquarium drunkard.]
Malcolm McLaren - "Double Dutch" [from duck rock. to wind up the tribute to malcolm, i threw on a track from his 1983 solo record. he knew how to pull people to back him and this record turned out to be mightily influential in turning britain onto hip-hop. it's a really fun record, honestly. rest in peace, malcolm.]

That'll do it for this week. I'll be back next week with our WQFeSt lead-in show and lots more. Until then, take care.

J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 31st March 2010

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem, the last one for March. Already one-third through 2010. The month of April is going to be dominated by interviews on the show - I'm hoping to get someone on the show each week, but right now we have two for certain. Caleb Caudle will be returning to the show for his second visit on April 14th to talk about his new album. Winston-Salem's Jews and Catholics will be joining us on April 28th to talk about their new album as well.

Now, before the April Fools jokes begin, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 31st March 2010

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - "I Learned the Hard Way" [the title track from their forthcoming album. they'll be bringing the funk to the cat's cradle in carborro on may 11th. excitement abounds.]
the Afghan Whigs - "Gentlemen" [the title track from their 1993 masterpiece. if you've never listened to them, well, you should. now. seriously. put the podcast down and go to it.]
Harlem - "Friendly Ghost" [from the hippies album that has been tearing up my digital record player. it's raucous, great stuff.]
Mclusky - "To Hell With Good Intentions" [from the equally, if not more so, raucous do dallas, the album that got me into these hellions and eventually lead me to the awesome future of the left as well. great post-punk.]
>
Jews and Catholics - "Who Are We Think We Are" [the title track from their forthcoming album due out later in april. great winston-salem rock and roll.]
Unrest - "Make Out Club" [from perfect teeth. teen beat records legends and in a lot of ways the cross-town brethren to slumberland records' noisy, pop chaos. this album is just amazing, honestly.]
Frightened Rabbit - "The Lonliness and the Scream" [from the winter of mixed drinks. they'll be at the cat's cradle in carborro on sunday, april 25th. a great cap to the WQFeSt weekend on friday and saturday, april 23rd and 24th.]
the Plimsouls - "A Million Miles Away" [from everywhere at once. peter case, a member of excellent jittery punk band the nerves, put himself out there with this band. this is, probably, their best known song and for a reason. it's amazing, that's why.]
>
the National - "Bloodbuzz Ohio" [from the forthcoming high violet. a great song that the band had been playing out live for some time, now the lead released track from their new record. sounding good.]
DJ Lobsterdust - "It's Fun to Smoke Dust" [a mash-up combining a sermon by a preacher about the evils of queen and the queen classic "another one bites the dust." the best part, by far, is how the preacher's statement of what it sounds like the song is saying when played backwards is not that far fetched. a great creation here. grab it for free from lobsterdust's excellent mash-up blog.]
Drive-by Truckers - "Santa Fe" [from the big to-do. this is my favorite song on the new album. i'm at odds with a friend of mine, for whom it's her least favorite, but we both agree this is a fantastic album.]
For Squirrels - "The Mighty K.C." [from example. i go off occasionally about how good this album is, but i still rarely run into people who remember just what a minor hit this song was for the band. the video got regular play on mtv and the song was an alt-rock radio staple for a minute after the tragedy of half the band's death in a van accident. the video actually uses touching footage of the late band members in various candid situations. a sad shame as the album is a solid piece of REM/grunge inspired rock.]
>
Titus Andronicus - "Theme From 'Cheers'" (incomplete) [from the monitor. so, i did a poor job of vetting this song and didn't listen to it properly ahead of time, otherwise i'd have noticed the multiple FCC violatin' words. so, i had to fade it out mid-song to avoid further doing damage and read the apology. i'll get it set up for next week. apologies to listeners and to the band for not getting through the whole thing.]
Bear in Heaven - "Lovesick Teenager" [from beast rest forth mouth. one of the bands announced for the inaugural hopscotch music festival in raleigh september 9th - 11th. tickets go on sale tomorrow morning, thursday, april 1st, and this thing is looking amazing.]
Slade - "Cum On Feel the Noize" [from slade smashes. the original which i think smokes quiet riot's cover which smooth's out the blues vamps and hooks of this version. slade is an awesome band.]
Blair - "Rampage" [from die young. blair has been racking up some awesome plays on radio across the country, so why not add to it? she's taking off.]
Blur - "Badhead" [from parklife. by request from a few weeks ago and this goes out to the requestor, chris, who is still recovering from having his wisdom teeth out. hope your badhead becomes less painful soon.]
>
Stripmall Architecture - "Pripyat" [from feathersongs for factory girls. a band that landed in my inbox today. an interesting song - named after the current ghost town that was home to the chernobyl nuclear disaster. we'll probably hear more.]
Wilco - "Thirteen" [from big star small world. a really lovely version of the big star classic. jeff tweedy's voice just seems made for the heartbreak of this song.]
Erykah Badu - "Window Seat" [from new amerykah part two. the video for this song has been stirring up controversy and good. not that mtv ever prevented people from making creative videos - it just prevented a lot of them from being seen. the internet has truly liberated artists in that regard. music videos made still have a place in the industry.]
Lambchop - "National Talk Like a Pirate Day" (live) [from live from XX merge. a run through of one of the best songs from OH(ohio). if you haven't picked this album up and are a fan of lambchop, or even if you aren't, go get it.]
>
Futurebirds - "Megachills" [from their self-titled EP. this is an excellent band that, apparently, tore it up at south by southwest a week or so ago. i want to get a chance to see them live myself.]
Portugal the Man - "The Dead Dog" [from the forthcoming american ghetto. man, i'm seriously digging this record. we're going to hear a lot more.]
Dwight Yoakam - "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere" [from this time. this became lodged in my head last week sometime as i spent a friday evening listening to nothing but dwight yoakam. one of my favorite yoakam songs.]
Jeff Buckley - "Kanga Roo" (live) [from mystery white boy. one of my favorite big star covers. buckley's version of this, all nearly 9 minutes of it, takes one of the great big star songs and puts every one of buckley's great tricks to work to its advantage. awe inspiring.]

That'll do it for this week, I'll be back next week with more great new music and until then take care.
