J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 6th March 2013

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. Sorry to say that due to technical mishaps, last week's episode with Caleb Caudle and Haley Dreis is lost to the ether. Bummed, as their live performances were great.

Thankfully that did not happen this week as I was joined by the legendary Chris Stamey. Chris has a new album, Lovesick Blues, out on Yep Roc and is playing the 7th installment of the Crossroads series at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem this Saturday, March 9th. He'll be playing along with his band, the Fellow Travelers, a 20 piece orchestra and rock band, and performing Lovesick Blues in its entirety along with some extra bits. We talk about that and a lot more - and have Chris play some live songs - all in the show below, so check it out and enjoy.

Del Amitri - "The Return of Maggie Brown" [from lousy with love, their b-sides collection. this is an early track, but one of their more fun ones on this collection. the rest of the album is loaded with great songs, but mostly maudlin, down tempo songs.]

Son Volt - "Bakersfield" [from the new album honky tonk which is really quite excellent. if you threw away son volt some time ago...might be time to re-engage.]
School of Fish - "King of the Dollar" [from their self-titled debut. the little "satisfaction" call out in this song is so obvious, it's brilliant.]
Birds and Arrows - "Safety" [from coyotes off the north carolina band's newest album. pretty good.]
Youth Lagoon - "Third Dystopia" [from their new album wondrous bughouse. i had to stretch a little to find singles on this album, but it's a great listen as a whole. really worth seeking out if you like this track.]
