j's indie/rock mayhem - 3rd/4th October 2003

[thanks to everyone for bearing with me the last couple of weeks. now that i'm on a more stable schedule i should be moving with less interruptions. i'll be gone again for halloween but that should be the last show i miss between now and thanksgiving. however, late night shows on school days don't work well. i was late because i fell asleep. i need to revamp my happenin' friday nights to include a nap before my show. all this fast livin' slows me down. anyway.]

The Stone Roses - "Sally Cinnamon (12" single mix)" and "I Wanna Be Adored" [at first i was just going to play "sally.." but a man passing through called in to ask for "i wanna.." so i obliged. both fantastic songs.]
My Bloody Valentine - "When You Sleep"
The Byrds - "I Am a Pilgrim" [last friday was the 30th anniversary of the death of gram parsons, so i thought the least i could do was play this.]
>
Superchunk - "Beat My Guest" [a great adam ant cover from their new cup of sand b-sides collection]
The Mekons - "Amnesia" [the mekons rock 'n' roll is currently one of my very, very favourite albums. and this one of my favourite songs.]
Bob Dylan - "Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine"
Jeff Buckley - "Satisfied Mind" [by intuitive request]
>
Jim White - "Sleepy Town"
The Handsome Family - "Gravity" [these two will be playing together next monday at go studios in carborro, nc. they are both truly stunning to see live. i'll be there so if you see me, say hi.]
New York Dolls - "(There's Gonna Be A) Showdown"
Sonic Youth - "The Empty Page"
>
Television - "Little Johnny Jewel (Pt. 1 & 2)" [this is from the recent re-issue of marquee moon. this was television's first single and is its first appearance on any cd. it's one of five bonus tracks. the re-mastering is very nice and the bonus tracks make it definitely worth it for any television fan. if you don't own marquee moon then it makes a very compelling argument to go buy it, i'd say. a brilliant, incomparable record.]
Iggy Pop - "The Passenger" [a great song.]
The Church - "Reptile"
Television - "See No Evil" [one bonus track to start, one original album track to finish.]
>
Michael Penn - "Try" [the song that introduced me to messr. penn. good stuff]
the Jayhawks - "Angelyne" [one of the definite highlights of their show last week]
Sleater-Kinney - "Ironclad"
Sixteen Horsepower - "Flutter" [for jenny, who couldn't possibly have heard it.]
>
Lucinda Williams - "Pineola" [a great song i wish she had played last week, but alas.]

Thanks for listening and I'll be back next week, better prepared and with the actual top 20 song list alluded to in the prior post.
