j's indie/rock mayhem - 12th may 2004

[a great show and a great night, although a bit discouraging since we're on temporary schedule and i was the last dj for the evening. so we went off the air at 8pm. rather lame, but that's what happens. so onward.]

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
the Emergency - "Breakdown A Go-Go" [this has been stuck in my head for weeks now and has finally convinced me i need to purchase this album.]
Oasis - "Live Forever" [possibly the best song they've ever written. maybe.]
the Coral - "Talkin' Gypsy Market Blues"
Mary Lou Lord - "Some Jingle Jangle Morning" [this song is a brilliant tale of addiction, especially for its just so tasty guns 'n' roses reference: 'now lsd and ecstacy won't help me/and my dance with mr. brownstone got too hard..'.]
>
Beastie Boys - "Ch-Check It Out" [from the forthcoming to the 5 burroughs. this single is very, very good.]
Bob Dylan - "Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine" [the harmonica and horns make this song one of my absolute favorite dylan tunes.]
the Rain Parade - "This Can't Be Today" [the paisley underground at its finest.]
the Byrds - "You're Still On My Mind" [an empty bottle, a broken heart and you're still on my mind.]
>
Melissa Auf der Maur - "Taste You" [ex-hole and ex-smashing pumpkin finally gets her solo debut. the album is very much entrenched in the 90s alt-rock sound that she's been such an integral part of, but it's not bad and this song is quite good.]
R.E.M. - "Radio Free Europe"
Nicolai Dunger - "Ballad of a Relationship" [this is just about the pinnacle of dunger's soul rush album. the climax, the apex. it's just beautiful.]
the Tragically Hip - "Ahead by a Century (live)" [from their breathtaking live between us album.]
>
the Roots - "Don't Say Nuthin" [the new single off their forthcoming the tipping point. my top 25 list is going to be crowded this year, i know.]
John Prine - "Sam Stone" [how appropriate.]
Travis - "Writing to Reach You" [my favorite travis song, period.]
Eugene Chadbourne and Noahjohn - "Coward"
>
Division of Laura Lee - "All Streets End" [from their newest, das not compute, which is really good, by the way. i really like this band quite a bit.]
the Gits - "Bob (Cousin O.)"
Verbena - "All the Saints"
Son Volt - "Back Into Your World" [a song that has had me witness several people cry in my lifetime. something about it..]
>
Dilated Peoples feat. Kanye West - "This Way"
Josh Ritter - "Kathleen" ['all the other girls here are stars; you are the northern lights..']
Andrew Octopus - "Stroboscopic Robitussin Hoedown" [instrumental madness. good stuff.]
Jurassic 5 - "A Day at the Races" [oh, man i love this song.]
Nada Surf - "Hyperspace" [i knew that nada surf was the nuts when i first heard this song from their second album, the proximity effect.]
>
the Damnwells - "Kiss Catastrophe" [i rather enjoy this band quite a bit.]
Richard Thompson - "1952 Vincent Black Lightening (live - acoustic)" [by request. someone wanted richard thompson, and i adore this song. so here we go.]
Teenage Fanclub - "Sparky's Dream"
Bruce Springsteen - "Atlantic City" [i wanted to drift off to this album last night, but the copy was in my car and i'm lazy. so i exercised it by leaving off with it.]

Until next week! Take Care!
