j's indie/rock mayhem - 19th may 2004

[this week and next, wqfs will be in the midsts of training new djs for the summer schedule. so, tonight and next week, i'll have training djs up with me, so it won't be the full show in its normal form. my plan, for the most part, is to do the first hour of the show myself and then to turn it over to the trainees, which is exactly what i did tonight. so i'm only posting the first hour's playlist since that's the half that i programmed. hope you enjoyed.]

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Beastie Boys - "Ch-Check it Out"
the Afghan Whigs - "Debonaire" [one of the hottest whigs songs there is, my friend.]
Modest Mouse - "Float On" [by request. from their newest release.]
Hayden - "Hollywood Ending" [from his brand new elk-lake serenade which was just released yesterday. my copy was in the mail today. it's quite good, but hayden always is.]
>
Division of Laura Lee - "All Streets End" [from the newest, das not compute.]
the Emergency - "Church of the Chix Denomination" [i'll never tire of playing this album. it's so catchy and good.]
the Gun Club - "Ghost on the Highway" [from their unreal debut album, 1981's fire of love.]
Dogbowl - "Hot Day in Waco (live)" [by request. not a bad song at all.]
>
Rocket From the Tombs - "What Love Is" [rocket from the tombs, the greatest band that never recorded an album..well..finally has an album. a re-formed, re-united line up has re-recorded a lot of their classic songs (that became classics via their splinter groups, the dead boys and pere ubu) and it's quite, quite good.]
the Roots - "Don't Say Nuthin" [new roots drops really soon.]
Mission of Burma - "Dirt" [from their new album ONoffON, their first new album in 21 years. and it's good. let me tell you.]
Kathleen Edwards - "Money Talks (live)" [from the live at the bowery ballroom EP. and yes, that's an ac/dc cover. it's good.]
>
Bob Dylan - "I Threw It All Away (live)" [from the hard rain live album.]
the Damnwells - "Kiss Catastrophe"
Peter Bruntnell - "By the Time My Head Gets to Phoenix"
Pavement - "Gold Soundz" [lovely, lovely.]

So that's it until next week. I'm hoping to hold onto the Wed. 6pm - 8pm time slot for the summer, but of course, if anything changes, you'll read it here first. Take care!
