[a great week for new releases and music in general. this fall (as this summer already did) is gearing up to be one hell of a season for album releases. the top 25 list is going to be absolutely packed come december. a pair of definite top 25'ers were released this week, so let's get to the list. onward.]

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
Drive-by Truckers - "Where the Devil Don't Stay" [the lead track from their latest, the dirty south. check out my review of the album.]

Stephen Malkmus - "Jenny and the Ess-Dog" [from his self-titled album.]
Paul Westerberg - "As Far As I Know" [a leaked track from his forthcoming album folker due out september 7th.]
Rogue Wave - "Seasick on Land" [from their latest out of the shadow.]
the Dead Boys - "Sonic Reducer" [from young loud and snotty.]
the Beastie Boys - "An Open Letter to NYC" [from to the 5 boroughs. an excellent song that samples the dead boys' "sonic reducer" to excellent effect, so it sounds good to play them back to back.]
Sleater-Kinney - "Off With Your Head" [originally from the limited edition bonus disc that came with their album one beat, this is from the future soundtrack for america compilation. a really great cd for a really great cause.]
Steve Earle - "Home to Houston" [from his brand new album the revolution starts...now! this also came out this tuesday.]
the Damnwells - "I'll Be Around" [from the lovely bastards of the beat.]
the Magnetic Fields - "I Don't Believe You" [by request. caller wanted to hear "smoke and mirrors," but per usual, any decent band has had their back catalogue hijacked over the years. this is from their most recent album i.]
Bob Dylan - "She Belongs to Me" [from bringing it all back home.]
the Roots - "I Don't Care" [from thier latest, the tipping point.]
Flying Burrito Brothers - "Lazy Days" [originally from burrito deluxe, this came from the beyond nashville: the twisted heart of country music compilation that is a wonderful bounty of great music.]

Andrew Octopus - "Stroboscopic Robitussin Hoedown" [NC artist. from the mind-bending time travel is possible. read a review here.]

T. Rex - "Jeepster" [from electric warrior. after finally getting around to owning this album, i see why it gets the credit it so richly deserves.]
Kathleen Edwards - "Money Talks (live)" [a great cover of the AC/DC classic. from the live at the bowery ballroom EP.]
Mutual Admiration Society - "Trouble" [a jon brion song from the self-titled mutual admiration society album. MAS is glen phillips (ex-toad the wet sprocket) and all three members of nickel creek. a really great collaboration.]
