J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 1st September 2010

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. Tonight's show was, to say the least, bonkers. I was joined by the members of the Alcazar Hotel who proceeded to give me one of the most energetic interviews I've had in a long time. I hope y'all enjoy it. They're playing at the Flatiron this Saturday, September 4th as a celebration show for the release of their new 7" single. Check it out and I'll see you at the show.

Now, while the frosting cools, onward.]

Carissa's Wierd - "Die" [from the new they'll only miss you when you leave compilation collecting a lot of the work of this seattle band that was a precursor for band of horses and sera cahoone's solo work. really great song. i need to hear more.]

[Now came my interview with Edward, Adam, Brad and William of the Alcazar Hotel. This was, literally, one of the most manic interviews I've ever conducted in the station and it was an absolute blast. They're playing this Saturday at the Flatiron with the Old One Two and Matty Sheets and the Blockheads as a premiere for their new 7" single which you really ought to come pick up. Why not? Check out the interview and the songs played below.]

the Alcazar Hotel - "Suicide King" / "Stupid Feeling" [these are the two songs that make up their new 7" single.]
the Alcazar Hotel - "In Between the In Between" (live) [this was the first of two live songs they did in studio. really good stuff. click here to download.]
the Alcazar Hotel - "We're Called the Alcazar Hotel" / "Tomorrow" [the first is an original and the second is a cover of a morphine song recorded for a morphine tribute album. check out the video for the cover that the fine folks at monkeywhale did.]
the Alcazar Hotel - "I Wanna Be Your Drummer" (live) [this was the second of the two live songs they performed. equally great as the first. click here to download.]
the Alcazar Hotel - "The Walk of Wiley Foster" [last recorded track of the interview.]
>
Vic Chesnutt - "Granny" [from at the cut. there's an awesome video of a show in canada recorded in late november of last year, about a month after i last saw vic here in north carolina. i hope the complete concert sees the light of day on DVD, because it looks absolutely amazing. this is for erin, who i hope continues to find something in it that matters. i know this was a bit of a buzzkill after the energy of that interview, but i really wanted to fit this in this week. hope y'all don't mind.]

That's going to do it for this week. I'll be back next week, perhaps with trainees, but definitely with more hot music. Thanks again to the Alcazar Hotel for stopping by. Until then, Go Panthers! and take care.
