J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 14th September 2011

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. A great show this week kicking off the 12th anniversary of my first how here at the station. And what better way to celebrate than by playing tons of good, new stuff? So let's get to it. Onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 14th September 2011 show

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Male Bonding - "Can't Dream" [from the new endless now. i'm really enjoying this album a lot. here's to hearing more, too.]
Tiger Bear Wolf - "I Can't See the Light" [from, without a doubt, one of the best rock records of the 2000s. their self-titled album is just absurdly awesome. even now. six years later.]
Wye Oak - "The Alter" [from civilian which is bound for the best-of list at the end of this year, for sure.]
Fugazi - "Cashout" [from the argument which will be ten years old at the beginning of next month. i'll be doing a look-back on aquarium drunkard later this week. stay tuned.]
>
Cymbals Eat Guitars - "Definite Darkness" [from the new lenses alien which is really quite good so far. we'll hear more.]
the La's - "There She Goes" [from their one and only self-titled album. one of the greatest pop songs ever written. am i talking too much hyperbole this week?]
Dot Dash - "Learn How to Fly" [from spark > flame > ember > ash. the band is former members of a fav of mine, julie ocean, so well worth hearing.]
the Posies - "Love Letter Boxes" [from frosting on the beater. i've talked a lot about this record over the years, but too much is not a thing with this album.]
>
A.A. Bondy - "The Twist" [from his newest, believers which you can read my review of over at aquarium drunkard. check it out and look for my interview with bondy this week on the site as well.]
Five Eight - "Ode to Massachusetts" [from your god is dead to me now, their latest. great rock and roll to say the least.]
Blitzen Trapper - "Love the Way You Walk Away" [from american goldwing. i'm not sure how far away from the last few records this one really is, but it's a solid album nonetheless.]
Lucinda Williams - "Pineola" [from sweet old world. always have enjoyed this song an awful lot. had to add it in to the show tonight.]
>
J's Indie/Rock My First Times: Matthew Sweet [matthew sweet talks about his first concert. a pretty fun little story. click here to listen.]
Matthew Sweet - "Late Nights With the Power Pop" [from the forthcoming modern art which is out next week. check out my interview with matthew sweet over at aquarium drunkard. was quite a treat to talk with the legend.]
Pixies - "Levitate Me" [from come on pilgrim. looking forward to seeing them bring doolittle to the war memorial auditorium here in greensboro in november.]
Obits - "You Gotta Lose" [from moody, standard and poor. seriously a fantastic album.]
Superchunk - "Rosemarie" [from majesty shredding. seeing these guys at the hopscotch fest last week was great as always, and this song was one of the highlights for me.]
>
Girls - "Vomit" [from the new father, son and holy ghost album. we'll hear more, but it's getting great reviews so far.]
Son Volt - "Sometimes" [from the por vida tribute to alejandro escovedo, a cover of one of his classics.]
PJ Harvey - "C'mon Billy" (live) [from a new itunes exclusive live session featuring harvey playing classics and recent great songs as well. pretty good.]
the Dream Syndicate - "That's What You Always Say" [from the days of wine and roses. if you've never heard this record, well, get on it.]
>
Megafaun - "Real Slow" [the lead track from their forthcoming self-titled record which is out this week. such a great album.]
the Sex Pistols - "Silly Thing" [from the great rock 'n' roll swindle. i can't remember who sings on this track - not johnny rotten, obviously - but still a fun song.]
Glen Campbell - "Any Trouble" [from the new ghost on the canvas. this is the song written for campbell by paul westerberg and if you listen closely, yup, it's a paul song alright.]
The The - "Love Is Stronger Than Death" [from dusk. just one of those great, dark ballads. seriously good stuff.]
>
Wild Flag - "Romance" [from their new self-titled record. good to finally hear this one drop. looking forward to playing more.]
Soundgarden - "Outshined" [from badmotorfinger which is still pretty awesome, i must say.]
Bjork - "The Modern Things" [from post. meant to play "hyper-ballad," but hit the wrong track. oh, well. this album is perfect from front to back anyway, so there you go.]

That'll do it for the show. Sorry for the late post, but we'll hopefully be back on track this week. Until then, take care.
