J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 3rd April 2013

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. Sorry for last week's show going AWOL, but that was fixed this week and somewhat made up for with a double helping of the show. The first two hours are available via the traditional Libsyn download or via iTunes, but the second two hours will be hosted on my server and up for download only directly from here. Check below for the links and a modified list of what got played during the third and fourth hours.

Now, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 3rd April 2013 show - Part One and Part Two

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Telekinesis - "Ghosts and Creatures" [from dormarion. very excited that telekinesis is coming to chapel hill on sunday, may 5th at local 506.]
Pavement - "Date with IKEA" [from brighten the corners. this is just one of those seemingly tossed off, fuzzy, power-pop masterpieces. no biggie.]
Kinski - "Skim MILF" [from cosy moments. kinski is a band i've seen around a lot for years, but never really delved into. so here's some.]
the Suicide Commandos - "Mosquito Crucifixion" [from make a record. just great early minneapolis punk rock.]
>
Veronica Falls - "Teenage" [from waiting for something to happen which is still just far too good a record.]
Pulp - "Joyriders" [from his 'n' hers. the "riding late at night.." from "teenage" reminded me of this song, so there you go. "up the women!"]
All Tiny Creatures - "Quickest Cut" [from their forthcoming record dark clock. i played this track last week, but it was lost in the ether, so here it is again. quite good.]
Teenage Fanclub - "What You Do To Me" [from bandwagonesque. didn't even think until now of how this bookended the first song in this set. excellent.]
>
Art Brut - "Arizona Bay" [one of the two new songs included on their double disc top of the pops best-of that just came out. we'll hear some from the rarities disc next week.]
Girls Against Boys - "Let Me Come Back" [from venus luxure no. 1 baby. like a damn steamroller. that's how the early girls against boys still sounds to me.]
Wavves - "Sail to the Sun" [from the new record afraid of heights. really digging this record so far. more so than previous wavves albums.]
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "All I Ask of Myself Is That I Hold Together" [from brainbloodvolume and thus wraps up just a tremendously rockin' set, if i do say so myself.]
>
Son Volt - "Down the Highway" [from the excellent new honky tonk. seriously, it's fantastic.]
R.E.M. - "How the West Was Won and Where It Got Us" [from new adventures in hi-fi, in my mind, the last great REM album.]
Josh Ritter - "The Appleblossom Rag" [from the beast in its tracks. such a fantastic album.]
Drive-by Truckers - "72 (This Highway's Mean)" [from southern rock opera. one of my favorite mike cooley songs.]
>

Estrangers - "Love's Pure Light" [from their forthcoming and as-yet-untitled album. they're playing tonight at phuzz phest!]
>
Futurebirds - "Virginia Slims" [from the forthcoming baba yaga which is out april 16th on fat possum records. so good live last week.]
Belly - "Feed the Tree" [from star, tonya donnnely's first album as belly following her departure from the breeders. and for old time's sake, go watch the video.]
Hayden - "Blurry Nights" [from his latest, us alone. dig this song quite a bit.]
Whiskeytown - "Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight" [from stranger's almanac. this was played just perfectly after the end of the caitlin rose show i was at last week. well done.]
>
Bleached - "Outta My Mind" [from their album ride your heart. dig that song, so we'll hear more.]
Hammer No More the Fingers - "It's About Carin" [from black shark which i still can't quite get over how ridiculously good it is.]
Wire - "Re-Invent Your Second Wheel" [from change becomes us, the new album from the post-punk veterans. this sounds almost like XTC and i love it.]
Shonen Knife - "The KKK Took My Baby Away" [by request. from osaka ramones, a tribute album to, you guessed it, the ramones.]

[That does it for the first two hours. Below check out a condensed list of the songs in the second two hours and don't forget to click on the link for "Part Two" of the show at the top to get the bonus show as well. Until next week, take care.]
