J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - 3rd September 2014

[Welcome to another edition of J's Indie/Rock Mayhem. This week was jam packed with new releases, so there's a ton of great new stuff this week. I was also joined by two new DJ trainees as we start the fall semester here in a couple of weeks. They did a nice job, so keep an ear out for them on the station in the coming weeks.

I'm skipping Hopscotch for the first time in its existence this year - which is a bit of a bummer - but every field has a fallow year to make it better for the next. Hope everyone is having fun up in Raleigh.

Now, onward.]

J's Indie/Rock Podcast: 3rd September 2014 show

Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show"
>
Ty Segall - "The Faker" [from manipulator. more great stuff from a great album.]
the History of Apple Pie - "Mallory" [from last year's out of view. pretty amazing song.]
Interpol - "All the Rage Back Home" [from their new album el pintor. i honestly have not listened to any new interpol albums in a long, long time. so i'm giving this one a go. and this song isn't bad. we might hear more.]
Superchunk - "Art Class" [from here's to shutting up. great, great song.]
>
Cymbals Eat Guitars - "Warning" [from their new album lose. we'll definitely be hearing more of this.]
Liz Phair - "Big Strong Man" [from whitechocolatespaceegg. classic liz phair.]
Delta Spirit - "From Now On" [from their new album into the wide. awesome songs as always from these guys.]
Guided by Voices - "Glad Girls" [from isolation drills. my favorite gbv album. yup.]
>
Ryan Adams - "Gimme Something Good" [from his new self-titled album. later career self-titled records are usually a re-branding of sorts, a re-dedication to something. is that what's going on here?]
Television - "See No Evil" [from marquee moon. need i say more?]
Esben and the Witch - "Dig Your Fingers In" [from their new album a new nature. there was some cool stuff on their previous album and this one is quite good, too.]
Tom Waits - "Clap Hands" [from rain dogs.]
>
Half Japanese - "In Its Pull" [from their new album, their first in 13 years, overjoyed.]
Son Volt - "Straightface" [from wide swing tremolo. underrated jay farrar.]
Twerps - "Heavy Hands" [from the underlay EP.]
Horizontal Hold - "Powder White" [from the this is not a living EP. enjoyed their show a lot at the garage last friday. go see them.]
>
Hiss Golden Messenger - "Saturday's Song" [from lateness of dancers, their first album for merge records.]
Spacehog - "Lucy's Shoe" [from the chinese album. i've been on a spacehog kick of late, so don't be surprised if more shows up.]
Loudon Wainwright III - "Brand New Dance" [from his new album haven't got the blues (yet). more great songwriting from a master.]
Blair - "Die Young" [the title track from her debut full-length.]
>
Blonde Redhead - "Dripping" [from their new album barragan.]
the Chameleons UK - "Swamp Thing" [from strange times.]
Justin Townes Earle - "Today and a Lonely Night" [from his new album single mothers. good stuff.]
Big Star - "September Gurls" from radio city. and why not? great song.]
>
Merchandise - "True Monuments" [from their new album after the end.]
Drive-by Truckers - "Marry Me" [from decoration day.]
Cassie Ramone - "Joe's Song" [from the time has come, the first true solo record from the former vivian girls' frontwoman.]

That'll do it for this week. I'll be back next week with more great music - new and old - and three trainees to do my bidding. Until then, take care.
